The truly cool and stylish shirk high street banality and head to Faversham's wealth of charity and vintage shops
Orange t-shirt, Debra. Striped trousers, £1 rail in Shelter. Army boots, Herne Bay charity shop. Green lipstick, Superdrug
Tuli and Minna, charity shop fiends, arrived at Standard Quay for a fashion shoot of a different kind. They took a couple of armfuls of clothes (retail value not more than £20), a pomegranate, an orange telephone, a red Viewmaster (1960’s Paris in view), a bunch of sunflowers snatched out of a vase, and a red and a green lipstick.
While not averse to borrowing Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses bought at an airport, Tuli and Minna are averse to looking like everyone else and want value for money. They have the hunter’s instinct, rifling through rails of clothes not to be seen dead in, until they spot the prize. Nor do they mind hacking their bargains to achieve perfection: When you buy a dress for 50p, why not chop the bottom off to get the cropped t-shirt you want?
Other hunting grounds are boot fairs, antique shops, vintage shops and eBay.
